ABOUT RAMADAN

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting to commemorate the first revelation of the Quran to Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him). It is regarded as one of the Five Pillars of Islam.

Muslims are also instructed to avoid behavior that negate the reward of fasting like false speech (backbiting, cursing, lying, and fighting). The Noble Quran is read in completion during the fast. Reading is broken down into small parts called juz. Food and drink are consumed at sunrise and sunset called suhur and iftar respectively.

The Ramadan Prayerline has been happening for over a decade. Each year during the Holy Month of Ramadan, we convene to fast, pray and learn together each morning at the time of the Fajr (early morning) salat (prayer). Daily Quran readings are shared as we aspire to complete the reading of the Noble Quran.
